You verified your Google Business Profile. You got the postcard, entered the code, and got the green checkmark. You waited a week. Two weeks. Your business still doesn't show on Google Maps. This is more common than most people think.

Verification does not mean instant visibility

Google says it can take up to 14 days after verification for your profile to appear in search results. But that's the best case. If your profile has category issues, NAP mismatches, or service area misconfiguration, the clock doesn't start until those are fixed. Verification is just the first gate. There are three more gates after it.

Missing categories block visibility

If you picked a broad category like 'Business Services' instead of a specific one like 'Dental Clinic,' Google doesn't know when to show you. Your verified profile sits in limbo because Google can't match it to any specific search query. Check your primary category first. It's the single most common reason verified profiles stay invisible.

Service area vs physical address rules

If you're a service-area business (plumber, electrician, cleaner), your address should be hidden and your service area set correctly. Showing your home address when you don't serve customers there violates Google's guidelines. Hiding it without setting a proper service area also blocks visibility. Set a 15-20 km radius and confirm you're not showing your street address if you don't serve walk-ins.

NAP mismatches after verification

Changing your business name, address, or phone number after verification can trigger a re-reviews-on-google" class="text-secondary underline hover:no-underline font-medium">review. Even small changes — adding 'LLC' or changing 'Street' to 'St' — can reset your visibility. If you made any edits post-verification, check your GBP dashboard for a yellow warning banner. If it's there, you're in re-review limbo.

How to test if you're actually visible

Open an incognito browser. Search 'your business category near me' — not your business name. If you don't appear in the map pack within the first 3 results, something is wrong. If you also don't appear when searching your exact business name, the problem is different (likely a suspension or duplicate). Narrow it down before you start fixing random things.

lightbulb

The 7-14 day index window starts from the moment ALL issues are resolved, not from verification day. If you fixed something 3 days ago, wait another week before panicking. If it's been 3 weeks, run through these 4 checks.
