GBP Insights shows you a dashboard full of numbers. Most business owners open it, stare at it for 30 seconds, and close it. The problem is not the data. It's knowing which numbers to pay attention to and which ones are noise.

Search views vs map views — the split matters

Insights splits views into 'search views' (your profile appeared in search results) and 'map views' (someone actually saw your location on the map). If search views are high but map views are low, customers find your profile but don't engage with your location. That usually means your listing looks incomplete — missing photos, no posts, no offers. Fix the visual appeal of your profile.

Direction requests are the strongest buying signal

Someone requesting directions to your business is 5 minutes away from walking through your door. Track direction requests monthly. If they're trending down, something is wrong — wrong address, bad reviews-on-google" class="text-secondary underline hover:no-underline font-medium">reviews, or a competitor opened closer to your customers. Direction requests predict revenue better than any other metric.

Phone calls are a revenue metric, not a vanity metric

Phone calls from GBP are leads with high intent. A customer who calls from your profile has already decided you're relevant. Track total calls per month. Benchmarks vary by industry, but 10+ calls per month from GBP is the minimum for a healthy profile. Below that, your CTA button or phone number needs attention.

Photo views are a vanity metric — ignore them

Photo views feel good. Someone looked at your storefront photo. Did they call? Did they visit? Did they buy? No. Photo views correlate with nothing measurable. Check them once to see if your photo count is adequate (aim for 50+). Then stop tracking them.

What it means when nobody looks at your profile

If your total views are under 50 in 28 days, your profile is invisible. Not underperforming — invisible. Check your primary category, your verification status, and whether you appear in an incognito search. The problem is not optimization. The problem is existence.

The one metric that predicts revenue: direction requests. It's the closest GBP comes to a conversion event. A customer who requests directions is taking physical action. Track it, benchmark it, and investigate any drop immediately. That one number tells you more than all the others combined.
